February 16, 2011 19:29 IST

Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari and senior party leader L K Advani would address NDA's public rally in Hyderabad on Thursday against the Central government, highlighting the issue of corruption.

The public meeting christened "War against corrupt Congress" is being organised by BJP Andhra Pradesh unit at the Nizam College grounds in Hyderabad.

Besides, Gadkari and Advani, NDA convenor Sharad Yadav, Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitely are other prominent leaders, who are likely to attend the rally, State BJP President G Kishan Reddy told reporters.

Condemning the city police for denying permission for holding the public meet, Reddy said the party had to finally approach the High Court for it. Reddy said the police denied permission on the pretext that the Assembly would be in session from tomorrow but the party had applied for permission well in advance before the government took decision to convene the AP assembly session.

Inspite of High Court's permission, police was creating obstacles and not allowing party workers inside the ground for making arrangements for tomorrow's meet, he alleged. Reddy warned that the state government will have to face consequences if police tried to prevent party workers coming from various districts tomorrow for the BJP-led NDA rally.

Criticising UPA for indulging in scams, national vice-president of BJP, Purushottam Rupala, said NDA allies have launched the agitation against the corrupt Congress government to create awareness among people. Rupala,a MP from Gujrat, is also Andhra Pradesh state affairs in-charge.
