Actor-politician Kushboo on Wednesday joined the Congress, over five months after quitting the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam over reported differences with the party leadership.

Expressing happiness over joining the national party after meeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi at her residence in New Delhi, she said that the party would decide about her role.

"It is one of greatest honours to be part of the Congress. Though I was associated with another political party in the past, something was nudging me. Now, I feel like home coming after joining the Congress party," Kushboo told media persons.

Asked whether she would also focus on national politics, Kushboo, who was born and raised in Mumbai and made Tamil Nadu her home, said that her focus would be for the good of the country.

"I have just joined the party. My focus is for the good of the country and Tamil Nadu is part of our country. So, it's not focused on Tamil Nadu alone. So, I have to wait for what role I would be playing in the Congress party," she added.

Queried why she chose Congress over BJP, Kushboo said that Congress is the only party, which can ensure "secularism" and keep the country united.

However, the noted actor refused to reveal the reasons for parting her ways with the DMK.

Known for her penchant for making controversial remarks like the one on pre-martial sex, Kushboo quit the DMK on June 16, saying she was slighted by the party leadership.

In a letter to DMK chief M Karunanidhi, she had complained that her hardwork had become a one-way path in the party.

She joined the DMK in May, 2010 when it was the ruling party in Tamil Nadu.

Kushboo's house had come under attack last year after she made certain comments about leadership succession in the DMK, which attracted the wrath of supporters of party Treasurer M K Stalin.

The noted actor has acted in over 200 films, soap operas and hosted television shows in Tamil satellite channels.
