Pressure to act against seven police officers of the Andhra Pradesh police department allegedly involved in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case is getting stronger.

In an open letter to the Andhra Pradesh government, the Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee of India, which has been pursuing the case, has demanded action against seven officers from Hyderabad.

It states that the CID chargesheet in this case mentions clearly the role of these officers from Hyderabad. They not only provided logistic support, but also provided accommodation for the Gujarat police apart from preparing fake number plates which were used in the vehicles which followed the bus on which Sohrabudin and his wife Kauser bi were travelling.

The letter:

"Dear Chief Minister, the police officers of other states are arrested and are behind bars but even after the expose of the Hyderabad police officers and their involvement, because of strong political background they are still free.

It is assumed that seven senior IPS officers of Hyderabad extended unofficial help to the Gujarat police and provided all kinds of cooperation in the name of 'logistic support'.

We want to know from you why the senior police officers extended support to Gujarat police to eliminate Sohrabuddin and Kausar Bibi without any official papers or judicial orders. On whose instructions, the vehicles, buildings, property, and the police force of AP did these officers make use of? In the year 2007, the then Chief Minister Rajshekhar Reddy had rejected a probe.

The silence of AP government, led by the Congress party, is a big question mark on free and fair enquiry. The people of this country are eager to know what the present Chief Minister has to say in this regard.
