A comparative study of counterinsurgency, peace

Southern Army Commander Lieutenant General AK Singh on Tuesday released a book Counterinsurgency and Quest For Peace written by Colonel (Dr) Anil Athale (retd). 

Col Athale has been be honoured with a national Chhatrapati Shivaji Fellowship work on project related to internal security from 2006 to 2010.

The research for the book was carried out under the Chhatrapati Shivaji Fellowship at the United Services Institution in New Delhi. The book carries out a comparative study of counterinsurgency and peace processes in Kashmir, Sri Lanka, Northeast India, South Africa and Northern Ireland. The book also briefly deals with
the Naxal issue.

The book is a cumulative result of over two decades of study of counterinsurgency and active involvement and study of peace process. The work encompasses the study of tribal insurgency in Northeast India, Kashmir, Sri Lanka, Communist or Naxal revolt, South African uprising against the racist regime and troubles in Northern Ireland.

The researcher has attempted to find coherence and commonalities in order to build the base for theory of counterinsurgency.

This books attempts to promote wider understanding inter-state conflict and to tackle the issue and usher in peace.
