26 tribal militants arrested in Assam

Security forces in Assam arrested 26 tribal insurgents, including 18 belonging to the NDFB-S, accused of massacring Adivasi villagers, on Monday.

Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation was launched by the Army Unit of Red Horns Division stationed at Udalguri, police and National Investigation Agency, along the forested area of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

Those arrested included dreaded terrorist, Bikunas Narzary alias Birlangbai and other four hardcore terrorists namely, Bidai Singh Narzary alias Bugdaw, Lohit Basumatry alias B Ferkw, N Araibaw alias Aijak Narzary and Dura Singh Brahma alias B Khamshaw, according to a defence source.

The forces also recovered one AK 56 rifle with magazine, one 9mm Pistol (foreign -made) with holster, twenty five 7.62mm live rounds, 54 rounds of live 9mm ammunition and one hand grenade.

Eleven other its cadres of the NDFB-S were apprehended in a joint operation by the Army in another operation carried out on Monday in Panbari Forest area of Chirang District. A large quantity of arms and ammunition to including two pistols, two improvised explosive devices and nine detonators were recovered from the cadres.

In another operation, the Army arrested self-styled sergeant Bimal Boro alias Khwobla, platoon Commander NDFB(S) in Nalbari) at Antaibari under Tamulpur Police Station Police Station in Baksa  district in a joint operation with police.

In a joint operation, Army and police apprehended eight suspected Karbi Land People’s Front  cadres in Gandhipur of East Karbi Anglong district in the early hours of Monday.
