The Rediff Indian of the year

The Nominations...

Name:Vishal J Kumar
Email:jkvishal@hotmail.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:He is the only politician who thinks for the good and acts accordingly. I feel he deserves an appreciation.

Name:Shariq Ahmad
Email:ahmadash@emirates.net.ae
Nomination:President K R Narayanan
Reason why:Because he stood up when politicians around him were making a mockery of our constitutional processes. He shone as beacon to all right minded Indians.

Name:Hasan Qutbi
Email:hqutbi@usa.net
Nomination:A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:For giving India technological advancement and for showing the world that technological barriers can't stop our development efforts. We are self reliant in technology and have the will power.

Name:Navin Jain
Email:navinratan@yahoo.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:For showing that Indian politicians can think beyond petty politics. For showing the high tech face of India to the world. For being the CEO of the state and not the chief minister. For rising above the rest.

Name:Ramgopal
Email:ramnrg@hotmail.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:The CEO of AP has proved that a politician can even become an IT professional by changing the whole scenario of the IT industry in AP. He has been the role model for other CMs and has compelled other CMs to enter into this Info highway.

He has automised the functioning of government offices and made work simpler and very much people-friendly. Undoubtedly, he is the Man of the Year for his indefatigable service to the improvement of IT industry in AP, which the state would not have heard of, but for him.

Name:Chiru Gandham
Email:chiru@ssg1.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:Naidu is a gult as a Telugu is referred to in lighter terms. So am I. It's a biased vote! Well let's see. The only other Indian I can really think of is economist Amartya Sen. The Nobel Prize is only a recognition of what he has already achieved/achieving in his field. He is a man of many years. And Chandrababu Naidu has clearly given a new meaning to politics.

I don't see any politician in the post-Independence era, who has garnered so much respect. And politics are at the center of every Indian citizen. It is very important that this man be recognised (yet again). I hope he is going to spawn his enthusiasm for IT into other major industries with equal fervour.

Name:Ravi R
Email:aarravi@hotmail.com
Nomination:A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:Instrumental in giving the bargaining power to the nation. India is not rich but to protect itself it needs good military capability. We have achieved this without external help because of Kalam. MY VOTE IS FOR KALAM.

Name:Atheeshwar
Email:atheeshwar@hotmail.com
Nomination: A R Rahman
Reason why:Well in this new age India where there is pop and rock galore, where there is very much hype to imitate the West, India deserved its own music! Music of a kind which would send all feet from 6 to 60 tapping. Which would appeal to the various cultures in India - thus came a teenager who rose from jingles to the most sought after music director throughout India.

Name:Naseer
Email:sarajahan@hotmail.com
Nomination:Mohammed Azharuddin
Reason why:It needs lots of patience and courage when you are on the cricket field and representing a country of almost 1 billion people, with each of those 1 billion ready to catch even a needle size mistake and eveready to criticise than support. I think AZZA did a great job, which according to me no one in the present breed of cricketers are capable of doing. I wish all the best for AZZA the Indian of the YEAR.

Name:Shailesh Powdwal
Email:shailesh_powdwal@hotmail.com
Nomination:Dr Abdul Kalam
Reason why:He is the man behind our nuclear blasts. Those tests were carried out by India exactly when they were necessary. It is a high time that one should show those first world countries or to them who are pretending to be the world police that we are no where lacking. Neighbour Pakistan too is dangerous because they get aid from China and America. And Dr Kalam is the man behind that mission, who gave India a chance to stand with a raised head. We are proud of you Dr and proud of all those who are attached to these kinds of projects.

Name:Diptesh Shah
Email:diptesh@vsnl.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:First flash of what a politician should be -- augers well for the 21st century.

Name:D Bhatavdekar
Email:dtermined@hotmail.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why: After a long time there is a role model in politics.

Name:D Bhatty
Email:dbhatty@hotmail.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:No cheap gimmicks, no playing to masses -- concrete progress, national leader in the making.

Name:Prashant
Email:bflprk@bfl.soft.net
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:In a year just like any other -- one man has stood out above the crowd. With commitment and incredible spirit -- a man who makes the fight of life seem worth it. A man who soars above all others and lifts the spirits -- makes us believe that the impossible is possible and to be mediocre is a curse to be fought. A man whose passion drives him and teaches us that without passion, the world is not worth living in. A MAN WHO MAKES US DREAM!!!!

Name:S K Bose
Email:sbose@agrl.ethz.ch
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:He has shown us why famines hardly occur in an open democracy. The media is a good watchdog.

He has dedicated his work for the neglected poor of the WHOLE world.

Name:Thanthanpal
Email:thanthanpal@rediff.com
Nomination:Shrimati Rabri Devi
Reason why:She became the chief minister as a sacred duty to her husband. She showed political acumen by calling the opposition brothers. She is a good example of participative management, though it is due to compulsion and not due to choice. Bihar has always been what it is today, no matter how distinguished the chief minister. So she has shown that you do not necessarily need any qualifications to become a chief minister, which is a big morale booster to all and sundry Indians.

She may not know much about politics, but she keeps quiet and does not keep putting her foot in her mouth as many other politicians do. Now she is coming out of her shell, by holding the Khabardar Rally and giving her opposition a mouthful.

Even after she has become the chief minister, she still cooks food for her family and milks the cows, which shows that power has so far not corrupted her and that she is not ready to forget her humble beginnings.

Name:Tirthankar Ghosh
Email:tghoshx@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:The criteria I used for nominating a name were 1.The person should have brought cheer for a large number of countrymen.
2. The number of such incidents by the person.

Well, keeping in mind the above two points only one name comes to mind and that is of Sachin Tendulkar.

Name:Deepak
Email:d_khaju@mailcity.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:Because he makes us proud about being India time and time again.

Name:Suresh
Email:shaddarsanam@hotmail.com
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:1. Despite his stay for several years abroad, he remained an Indian citizen.
2. He won the Nobel Prize for his work that is most important in the Indian context.

Name:Sanjeev Verma
Email:sverma99@hotmail.com
Nomination:N Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:He is the political leader that most Indians would like to have at the helm of affairs: young, modern, forward-looking and industrious. In a short span of time, Naidu has turned things around for a state which seemed to be moving back in time during the rule of N T Rama Rao, whose only claim to fame was his avatar as Krishna in sundry pseudo-religious Telugu pictures. Naidu has turned things around fairly rapidly. And brilliantly.

His knowledge of technology has earned the state of Andhra Pradesh a status as India's foremost state in terms of technology. The chief minister works tirelessly to rescue his people out of their despairing state of poverty and socio-cultural backwardness. And yet he is up-to-date with things like business schools and Internet. That's savvy. Naidu is clearly the Indian of the Year 1998.

Name:Sushmita Sen Gupta
Email:sushmita@vsnl.com
Nomination:Dr Amartya Sen
Reason why:A brilliant scholar, a true humanist, upholder of secular principles. Finally, an Indian to be proud of. The Nobel was long overdue.

Name:Irene Dhar
Email:irenedhar@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:I don't think one even needs to say why...

Name:Harish Parameswaran
Email:harishp@hotmail.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:Though he hasn't become a true national figure, to me he looks like a true statesman, a man with clear vision. He looks very practical and is surely leading at least his state to true prosperity.

Name:Subha Shrinivasan
Email:ssubha@hclt.com
Nomination:Arundhati Roy
Reason why:She put India in the limelight, proving that Indian literature is a class apart. Besides she has some care for the fellow Indians and is a very genuine person.

Name:Manish
Email:m_k_sinha@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:He is the only person who appears to give the best to the country any time everytime.

Name:Bibhash Lahiri
Email:bibhashlahiri@rediff.com
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Reason why:Shri Vajpayee became prime minister with the help of two dozen parties. In spite of the fact that all the strings of the allies go in different directions and also from within his party and its sister organisations. He has been able to keep the country moving and kept a moderate face of the government. His image and his work always move together. Dr Kalam can be called as father of nuclear India but then our PM was the person who had the guts to carry out the test while earlier PMs just could not. We now have a foreign policy which is straight and to our need. He is a learned man and, of course, my choice as Rediff Indian of the Year.

Name:Nisha Bhatia
Email:nish9622@hotmail.com
Nomination:Mrs Sonia Gandhi
Reason why:Despite all the criticism she got she never gave up and proved that Italian or Indian, onions are onions when there is such an acute shortage like were facing. Hats off to her.

Name:Bhavesh Parekh
Email:bhavesh@pundits.com
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Reason why:For being the most popular politician in the worst times of his party and for his government. This definitely is a superman quality in dirty politics.

Name:Mugdha Velankar
Email:velankar@mpi.com
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Reason why:He has stayed on and not let the country fall completely to pieces under the current circumstances. It is a feat that he has accomplished in existing conditions. Definitely the Indian of the year.

Name:Ramesh Kumar
Email:Ramesh.Kumar@avon.com
Nomination:A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:Because he proved that Indians are very smart, even to fool the most advanced satellites and need not depend on outside technology to forge ahead. He also set the standards India can achieve in other fields if they have a very motivating, patriotic team at the helm of affairs.

Name:Krish Chandra
Email:Krish.Chandr@Platinum.com
Nomination:A P J Kalam
Reason why:True citizen and a patriot, he has single handedly put India on the world's technological stage. That too, without a foreign degree and without an iota of arrogance. Truely, a great man.

Name:Manoj Modi
Email:Manojmodi@Hotmail.com
Nomination:A R Rahman
Reason why:He is one who has changed the perspective of Hindi music. He has got NRIs like me listening, gives a great lift to the sprits. Vande Mataram was a great album. His music can unite India. The other one could be Sachin Tendulkar, he makes my head go high.

Name:Ganesh
Email:sganesh@vsnl.com
Nomination:A R Rahman
Reason why:He has made the fiery war cry of the freedom movement, Vande Mataram a household term. This is some achievement because I really felt when I listened to the song that I should contribute to this country in my own way. In his words, we, the youth of this nation should jettison the word chalta hai from our vocabulary and act like responsible citizens. This call for a 'change in attitude' has been initiated in a forceful manner by A R Rahman and that should be suitably rewarded.

Name:Yogesh Naik
Email:yonaik@yahoo.com
Nomination:Mr Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:Mr Babu, currently the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh has done a marvellous job during this year promoting technical skills in the political world. He has set an example of how a representatative of Indians should be!!

Name:Krishnakumar Venkatachalam
Email:kk_67@yahoo.com
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Reason why:For converting India into a nuclear state and going a step forward towards becoming a superpower.

Name:Ashish Bhardwaj
Email:ashbw@hotmail.com
Nomination:Dr A P J Kalam and team
Reason why:For showing the world (and those Indians also who feel that Indians can't do anything worthwhile in India) that India can also do it, and do it better with lesser resources.

Name:Shirish Gupta
Email:shirish@softhome.net
Nomination:Abdul Kalam
Reason why:The man whose efforts have shown India in a new light.

Name:Venkata Ramana Doppalapudi
Email:venkata@post.smu.edu
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:The first leader who genuinely thinks about his duties and the people. In this year, Chandrababu Naidu has come into the limelight with his unique plans for the development of Andhra Pradesh and won laurels all around the world. Our country needs leaders like him to overcome poverty and to raise the living standards of the people.

Name:Rajeev M Wadakannavar
Email:rajeevmw@usa.net
Nomination:A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:Because of his patriotism, and his visions he has delivered a recognition to his country, which everyone is proud of.

Name:Atul Moghe
Email:Atul.Moghe@asu.edu
Nomination:Indian scientists
Reason why:In spite of poor resources and support, Indian scientists proved their capabilites in nuclear science. It is really appreciable and one of the major milestones of 1998.

Name:Arun G
Email:arunz@hotmail.com
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:He is the one who successfully diverted the attention of the Nobel selection committee towards welfare economics from pro-Western business oriented stocks and options. That is what's needed for the upliftment of the entire world in general.

Thanks Sen for making Indians proud and for representing Third World countries.

Name:Uday
Email:uraval@hotmail.com
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Reason why:He is doing a very good job to secure the country's long term future.
1. He broke the impasse in nuclear policy.
2. He is taking very good initiatives for infotech, which I believe is the sure lottery for India's future.
3. He is also taking good initiatives for the development of infrastructure like telecom, airports and roads.
4. He has started the badly needed internal libralisation and most importantly with the active involvment of industry.

I believe that these steps are going to create a long lasting effect on the country's future, so I vote for him.

Name:Hemant Jaswal
Email:hjaswal@rkinc.com
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Reason why:For leading the country ably, sincerely and providing a modicum of stability in a turbulent country and world. With a bare majority and a motley coalition, he is still being able to provide just governance. The only hope he is provided more leeway by the RSS to go forward with his vision for a modern India.

Name:Surapaneni Lata
Email:ssreeni@yahoo.com
Nomination:N Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:Because he means business and has vision which is rubbing off on the whole nation, creating a healthy competition among the states, resulting in the overall growth of the country.

Name:Jayant Mehta
Email:jayant.us@worldnet.att.net
Nomination:Dr A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:India has a huge population and by contrast very few visionaries. Dr Kalam is one of them. My nomination for him goes not so much for his past work as for his future vision of where Indians should go with respect to technology. Clearly, he has the stature to win.

Name:Madhu Kadari
Email:mkadari@yahoo.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:For the first time since many years a politician is doing something for the development of the country.

Name:Sudhakar Vadapalli
Email:suds@mailexcite.com
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Reason why:He has shown despite election reversals that he is strong, resolute and more committed than any other prime ministerial candidates.

Despite Congress wins in the by-election, the only reasons that their leader Sonia Gandhi could attribute for the BJP's "mis-governance" was the Srikrishna Commission Report and the fiasco at the Education Ministers meet, the usual price rise and atrocities against minorities!

Name:Sudheer Sathi
Email:sudheer_sathi@yahoo.com
Nomination:SACHIN TENDULKAR
Reason why:In a year in which there have been many controversies about India and its policies, one man has held our flag high, even when it was not the best of times for him. He lost the captaincy, but proved that he is committed to giving his best for his country. Sachin -- the world's best batsman.

Name:Anil T L N
Email:anil@xilinx.com
Nomination:Dr A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:Dr Kalam has provided great leadership and vision to our missile and defence programmes. I am hoping to see an ICBM made by DRDO (under his leadership) for the protection of our nation.

Name:Srikanth Palwai
Email:spalwai@hotmail.com
Nomination:Atal Behari Vajpayee
Reason why:It is very natural for us Indians to get swayed by the moving wind or the emotions of the day, but to appreciate a whole scheme of things or a landscape painting, one must step back and view the whole scheme of things in the right perspective. I feel that Atal Bihari Vajpayee is a true non-Congress prime minister. This is important because market reforms initiated by the Congress Party, which dictates that competetion is good is also true for politics. And, Vajpayee who is a great leader and the most respected politician of our times is a true reflection of the competition we need in politics.

Name:Manoj Mathew
Email:manoj_mathew@intuit.com
Nomination:DR ABDUL KALAM
Reason why:Dr Kalam has been at the forefront of Indian technological advancements thereby making India a power to be reckoned with. Never before had the world sat down and taken a closer look at India than during the recent nuclear bomb explosions.

Name:Abhijeet Kulkarni
Email:abhik@ise-tlx.com
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:The Nobel prize and an illustrious teaching career speak for themselves.

Name:Kushan Mitra
Email:kushan@beer.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:Well, all the others may have done India proud. But only Sachin has made Indians feel really good in the last year. A year of tremendous difficulties for Indians. Sachin has shone on the cricket field.

Name:Nandan B Kasarla
Email:nandank@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin
Reason why:Made India proud.

Name:Sasidharan Kartha
Email:shashneet@hotmail.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:For all reasons I can expect a leader to be.

Name:Santosh Ravindran
Email:santosh.ravindran@gecapital.com
Nomination:A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:He is undoubtedly the star performer of this year. Thanks to him, India has proved to the Western world that it is not only technologically advanced but also has the guts to do such a thing in the face of stringent opposition from bullies like the US and the rest of the Western world.

Name:Kapil G
Email:kapilg@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:I don't have the time to justify why I chose Sachin. It is obvious, I guess.

Name:Anurag Shrivastava
Email:ashrivas@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:For his awesome performance throughout the year.

Name:Venkataramanan Govindarajan
Email:venkataramanan@rediffmail.com
Nomination:Dr Abdul Kalam
Reason why:His achievement exposed the fact that India need not produce results below the threshold due to foreign pressure. His achievement is a new dawn for India. To perform and achieve results beyond the horizon of the world's imagination. He also revealed that technology is not alien to India and it is capable of producing technology which could put India on par and ahead of other technologically advanced countries. It's is a late start (after fifty year of Independence), but it is a bright and resounding start, which can be felt by each Indian for centuries to come.

Name:Ganesh Srinivasan
Email:ganesh@kacf.com
Nomination:Dr A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:For his undeterred quest for supremacy, effectiveness in missile programmes and other defence preparations.

Name:Vishwanath Prabhu
Email:VPRABHU@GATEWAY.NET
Nomination:Dr Abdul Kalam
Reason why:At a time when the USA and UK will bomb anybody and everybody who do not possess a credible deterrent, exploding a nuclear bomb is significant for protecting India. I am sure these countries will think 100 times before attacking another country, if that country possesses nuclear weapons. India may have to go through a rough period now due to economic sanctions but it is worth it in the long run to possess nuclear warheads.

Name:Firdaus Dotiwala
Email:ffd@rocketmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:As he is the Best of the Best!!

Name:Sujay
Email:svkumar@eos.ncsu.edu
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:He has overshadowed all other prominent figures and his excellence on the field is incomparable. He has done his country proud. In other cases, Amartya Sen might have won the Nobel Prize, but he is no longer an Indian!! Abdul Kalam may have spearheaded the nuclear tests, but alas, only if they had not wasted so much money in the false "showing" of the country's strength...

Name:Rajesh Narayan
Email:nrajesh@cimnetsys.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:Do I need to explain? Politicians have to learn from him. I feel if India can produce such politicians, we could be no less than the United States.

Name:Ananth Sundaram
Email:Ananths@sce.com
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:A person who has really seen famine, which sowed the seeds for him to one day study about famine. He not only studied about it, but is trying to practice the same theory around the world, thereby allowing the world to handle it better.

Quite a few Indians did India proud this year like Abdul Kalam in defence, Sachin and Azhar in cricket, Onion-Sonia Gandhi (hope she is an Indian, I know she has Indian citizenship) for keeping her promise not to disturb the Vajpayee government, but Amartya is the one person, who by his deeds made his nation and human life proud of being an Indian.

My vote goes to Amartya...

Name:Kanth Jonnalagadda
Email:kanth@caip.rutgers.edu
Nomination:Mr Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:A man with clear vision for the all round development of the state. An able leader, and a great administrator. No other political leader in the history of India had such vision, dedication and attitude for working for the betterment of people in such a big way.

Name:Navin Pasari
Email:ngp202@stern.nyu.edu
Nomination:A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:Irrespective of what one's political views might be about the wisdom of the nuclear tests, it was no doubt a major scientific achievement to have successfully tested such a wide range of weapons. Also the weapons-delivery technology programme seems to be moving along very nicely; all under the guidance of this man.

Name:Abhishek Reddy
Email:mandala@spectra.eng.hawaii.edu
Nomination:Abdul Kalam, scientific advisor to the Union government
Reason why:All the scientists in the department of defence made us proud.

Name:Apparao
Email:Karao76@hotmail.com

Name:Josh Kumar
Email:Josh.Kumar@supervalu.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:What India needs is good politicians capable of doing their job (than settling issues within their own party). So naturally my nominee is Chandrababu Naidu.

Name:Deepak
Email:deeps41@aol.com
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Reason why:Vajpayee has made India bold and strong, and showed that India doesn't have to bow to any superpower, and also told us that we can become a superpower if we really want and work towards it.

Name:Yerramsetti Sridhar
Email:haiyv@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:He has taken cricket to a new standard.

Name:Mani V
Email:mani@eecs.wsu.edu
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:Dismal year in Indian politics. Only cheerful thought about the past year has been Tendulkar and his aggressive approach to the game of cricket. When he is heralded the world over, it makes us feel free to be an Indian. All the reason to give him the honour.

Name:Manish Agarwal
Email:manish_agarwal@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:Won a series of matches for India. Elevated the name of India in the world.

Name:CLAVIN JOHN
Email:clavin16@yahoo.com
Nomination:A R RAHMAN
Reason why:A R RAHMAN HAS MADE YOUNGSTERS REALISE HOW IMPORTANT INDIA IS TO THEM.

Name:N Gowrisankar
Email:ngosh@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sabeer Bhatia
Reason why:Sabeer Bhatia's idea of free e-mail has revolutionised Internet services. I am sure today millions use free e-mails to share their views, worries, happiness... across the globe. All good things come free! May it be fresh air, bright sunshine, rain etc etc... Time has come where human values have more value than money. Nature always wins. I see free e-mail as a step towards this change and hence nominate Sabeer Bhatia as my nominee for the Indian of the year award.

Name:Rama Chalasani

Reason why:He is showing that an Indian politician can also be decent and can think differently. He is single-handedly taking many bold steps that others would not even dare.

Nomination:A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:He is the man with a dream for the country, gave India new heights in technology that includes nuclear technology to medical equipments for disabled children.

Name:Anand Hukmani

Nomination:Dingko Singh
Reason why:He won a gold in the Asian Games after facing too many difficulties.

Name:Kunal Sikka
Email:kunal_sikka@hotmail.com
Nomination:Abdul Kalam
Reason why:It was all because of him that India has now got the power to stand up to other nations for not only developing nuclear bombs but also other missiles and satellites. I most definitely think that this distinction should be given to him!

Name:Ramesh Korra
Email:rkora@hotmail.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu, CM, AP
Reason why:For his effort to make Hyderabad a Cyberabad. For having a vision which most of our politicians lack. Hope he succeeds in his effort.

Reason why:The man who made it to the world dream Cabinet, and doing so much for putting India on the world IT map.

Name:Sapna Bhargaava

Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:He has brought a lot of pride and joy to our country. He has singlehandedly taken India on course for victories on innumerable occasions. Yet he is so humble that he gives credit to the entire team for it. He truly is my person of the year!!

Name:Ganesh
Email:krish_ganesh@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:As he is the world's best batsman and was singlehandedly responsible for India's victories in the various one day competions in 1998. He has made our country feel very proud. Undoubtedly he deserves the Rediff award. There are so many others who have contributed enormously like Vishwanathan Anand, Chandrababu Naidu etc. People may have varied opinions, but my choice is Sachin who is going to blast centuries in the 21st century.

Name:Sonny Kohli
Email:chunni_007@hotmail.com
Nomination:Dr A P J ABDUL KALAM
Reason why:He is the person who made us proud Indians for a moment. We are now face to face before any country as we have a good power before us.

Name:MR J P KANABAR
Email:SRAJEEV@BOM3.VSNL.NET
Nomination:JYOTIRMOY SIKDAR
Reason why:SHE MADE INDIANS PROUD BY WINNING TWO GOLD MEDALS AT THE BANGKOK ASIAN GAMES. IN A CRICKET CRAZY NATION LIKE INDIA, SHE HAS SHOWN THAT OTHER SPORTPERSONS CAN DO AS WELL. OUR MINISTRY OF SPORTS SHOULD NOW OPEN THEIR EYES AND ENCOURAGE OTHER SPORTS BY SANCTIONING ADEQUATE FUNDS, AND SHOULD TAKE INITIATIVE TO BOOST THE MORALE OF UPCOMING TALENTS.

Name:Krishna kumar
Email:kkumar@hiso.honeywell.com
Nomination:Abdul Kalam
Reason why:For making the integrated missile programme an instant success.
