The Nominations...

If you haven't sent in your nominations as yet, please remember to do so before Christmas Day. Marvellous surprises await the 12 best entries.

Name: Anu Agarwal
Email: anu@cyber-gear.com
Nomination: Kalpana Chawla
Reason why: Thumbs up to this young lady -- It is a long journey from Karnal to space!! In her own small way, she has done India proud! A lesson to be learned for all the politicians of India -- Stop filling your own bags with money, you have enough of that we are sure, do something for your country!

Name: Bimal Kumar
Email: b.kumar@strath.ac.uk
Nomination: Gangwa Teli from Dukhiyapur, Bihar
Reason why: What a guy! He deserves the personality of the century award! The amount of battering he can sustain from all political parties has to be without any parallel in the entire world! First, it was the great Madam's Garibi Hatao and now it is the great Lalooji's acrobatics! The guy never complains, does he? He not only happily accepted Lalooji, but his pativrata ardhangini as well. I am sure he would have accepted one of Lalooji's gau matas as his CM. What a guy?!

Name: Abdhul Karim
Email:Abd_Krm@hsu.cku.com Nomination:Illayaraja
Reason why: He has produced more melodies than any other composer in both Western and classical music. His talent has been recognised and appreciated all over the world. He should be the man of the year.

Name: Prema Charles
Email: arpcharl@worldnet.att.net
Nomination: Kalpana Chawla
Reason why: For trail blazing her way into space aboard the shuttle Columbia; a truly remarkable achievement for an Indian, and a great inspiration to the younger generation.

Name: Riyaz Khan
Email: RiyaZ@cjis.net
Nomination: Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why: Politicians like Naidu are the only hope for the progress of our country. He has become an true example for other leaders with his administrative skills and hi-tech vision. With no doubt he is the Man of the year.

Name: Mogili Ramababu
Email: mogilir@silverline.com
Nomination: T N Seshan
Reason why: Every Indian knows what difference he could make. Just one person. We need one such person for every state. Politicians know they don't want Seshans. But true Indians are begging for more Seshans. Support Seshan and his likes and their work. Just filtering the candidates standing for polls based on their past personal history can make so much difference in the way India is governed from the nation level to the level of small villages. More Seshans as strict or more stricter than him and tens of them is a dying necessity for India. Please provide support to such leaders. They don't rule but they can control the rulers. It is the populace which needs to support them because politicians won't.

Name: Kishore
Email: kishore@iastate.edu
Nomination: C Naidu
Reason why: For being the first CM in recent times who talks about the problems, and works for solutions by asking the people to participate. For encouraging the infotech industry, trying to improve the infrastructure of AP. A man with vision, my vote goes for him!

Name: Sriram
Email: sriramj@grex.cyberspace.org
Nomination: Abdul Kalam -- or the countless Indian scientists.
Reason why: Indians are a resilient lot in their private lives. But when an Agni test or a PSLV test launch fails, you see numerous letters questioning the funding of the missile, space and super computing programmes. Here you see how one man can make a difference. One man who could successfully inspire hundreds of the best brains in the world. Here you see a man quietly shaping a brave new India. For taking us to places where bigger boys did not want us to go. Let us salute the true Bharat Ratna. Let us salute Abdul Kalam.

Name: Narayanan Anand
Email: narayana@cs.wisc.edu
Nomination: P Chidambaram
Reason why: Skillful application of knowledge to address the country's problems. More importantly, the desire to serve the country without succumbing to frustration at the hands of a corrupt gaggle of politicians seeking to thwart his every move.

Name: Vinodh Kumar Samnie
Email: samnievinodh@ussol.com
Nomination: N Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why: All our Indian newspapers are filled with dirty deeds of our political leaders. Its time when everyone has lost hope in our political leaders. Babu is setting a new trend in politics with his hi-tech administration. His works like fast clearance of files, frequent surprise visits to the government offices, computerisation of government offices have to be followed by every chief minister. See the way he attracted the IT industry. He shall undoubtedly be Man of the Year.

Name: Ram Yanamandra
Email: ryanamandra@attmail.com
Nomination: Dr Abdul Kalam
Reason why: He is one of our greatest scientists. And it is time, we shift our focus to people like him, who deserve the honour.

Name: Sunil Kr Mahato
Email: smahato@west.bri.com
Nomination: Saurav Ganguly
Reason why: After all those splendid scores in India and abroad, he deserves to be called: SAU-RUN (Hundred Run) Ganguly.

Name: Mohan Gopalakrishnan
Email: leoroar@geocities.com
Nomination: Vidyakar of Udhavum Karangal
Reason why: This may not win eventually, but if you pause for a moment and wonder about the use of an award like this, it is to bring to notice people who serve and continue to better mankind in India. A politician, however noble,, is well known, so are election commissioners, cricket players and movie stars. However Vidyakar of Udhavum Karangal -- an organisation that he founded to care for destitute children in Chennai needs publicity. It means more donations from NRI's, it means more street kids being taken into care. It means a lot for humanity and a lot for poor and deserted Indian kids.

Folks recognise Vidyakar or if you know someone else like this give them your recognition, and it will make a big difference. Much much more than giving this award to a dead politician.

Name: Arun Kumar
Email: arun@coe.neu.edu
Nomination: A lot of Indians have achieved something in their OWN fields! Reason why: Well, generalising is difficult. Many Indians have achieved something or the other in their own walks of life. So categorising would help. Politics: I K Gujral, P Chidambaram. Upholding the Constitution: President Narayanan, T N Seshan (to name a few) Sports: Indian Cricket team, Tennis stars, Hockey team.

Name: Abraham Louis
Email: abrahaml@usa.net
Nomination: Dr Abdul Kalam
Reason why: Any reasons why he shouldn't be?

Name: Atul Kapoor
Email: atul@iloveindia.com
Nomination: Mother Teresa
Reason why: Simplicity in life and for helping the poor.

Name: Priyanka Bhtanagar
Email: PriyankaB@rocketmail.com
Nomination: Mother Teresa
Reason why: She did the most extraordinary things for this planet and especially India. Certainly a jewel in the crown of the nation!!!

Name: Ramesh Saradhi Tellamsetty
Email: ramesh@rd.oda.epson.co.jp
Nomination: N Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why: Naidu's vision to develop Hyderabad as a hi-tech city on the same lines of Malaysia, and Japan brought a sea change in Andhra Pradesh. Even giants like IBM, Microsoft are on the row. Another good thing in him is his ability of administration and I hope if given a chance he will change the whole India into a Japan.
