Notices issued to Shiv Shanker, Vora, others in hawala case

The Delhi high court on Tuesday issued notices to former Union ministers Yashwant Sinha, P Shiv Shanker and Ajit Kumar Panja, former Uttar Pradesh governor Motilal Vora and the Jain brothers on a criminal revision petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation against their discharge in the multi-million hawala case.

Justice Manhoman Sarin listed the case for November 10, when other similar criminal revision petitions are to be heard.

Special Judge V B Gupta had discharged the four politicians, the three Jain brothers and one other person after finding no substantial evidence against them for framing charges. The high court asked the parties to file replies and the CBI to file rejoinder to the replies by the next date of hearing.

The high court will also hear the cases of former Union ministers Madhavrao Scindia, Arjun Singh and Buta Singh, Janata Dal president Sharad Yadav and others on November 10.

The date was fixed in view of a special leave petition pending before the Supreme Court in connection with Bharatiya Janata Party president L K Advani's discharge from the case by the Delhi high court after finding the Jain diaries were non-admissible.

The CBI had relied upon the Jain diaries while filing chargesheets against the country's top politicians and bureaucrats who are facing charges under section 120B of the Indian Penal Code and under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
