Film star Mohan Babu to be expelled from TDP
The Telugu Desam Party has decided to expel Mohan Babu, Rajya Sabha MP and popular film star, for "anti-party activities."
The TDP's disciplinary action committee, which met twice in Hyderabad
on October 19, was not satisfied with Babu's reply to the
show cause notice issued to him. The DAC then unanimously recommended his expulsion from the party.
DAC member Sobhanadreshwara Rao will now submit the report to
party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu
Naidu, TDP sources said.
Naidu is expected to present it to the TDP politburo, the party's highest
decision making body, before formally announcing
Babu's expulsion.
Mohan Babu has been at loggerheads with the TDP leadership after he was issued a show cause notice
for allegedly assaulting another party leader at Tirupati. He had also criticised the TDP leadership for shielding powerbrokers and the corrupt.
Babu went on fast in Hyderabad on October 2 to protest against hi-tech corruption and released a three-phase action programme to fight the phenomenon.
