'Table anti-Sikh riots report in Parliament'

The Shiromani Akali Dal has demanded that the United Front government table in Parliament the Justice Ranganath Misra report on the November 1984 riots along with an action taken report.

Akali Dal general secretary Professor Prem Singh Chandumajra said thousands of Sikhs were massacred in unprecedented violence in the country and no action had so far been taken against the instigators of the mayhem.

Professor Chandumajra, who is the party's whip in the Lok Sabha, said some of those allegedly involved in the genocide were honoured with election tickets and ministerial posts by the then ruling Congress party.

The Congress, which is demanding action against those indicted in former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, should see reason that justice be not denied to the innocent victims of the anti-Sikh riots, he said.

Referring to the Jain Commission report, Professor Chandumajra said it was surprising that the Tamil people as a whole have been indicted. It was similar to the manner in which Sikhs were painted as anti-national and suspect in the eye of the countrymen by the ruling Congress in 1984.
