TN bans other state lotteries

The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday banned the sale of other state lotteries in the state and warned that stringent action would be taken against those selling single digit lotteries which had been banned by the Centre.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi told the media that the ban will come into force from January 1.

Karunanidhi said the decision was taken considering the fact that nearly Rs 30 billion was going to the other states due to the sale of their lotteries.

To improve the state's revenue through the sale of Tamil Nadu government lottery tickets, the state lottery will be made more attractive, he said.

At present, the net sale of the state lottery was to the tune of Rs 200 million, fetching a revenue of Rs 60 million to the state exchequer per annum.
