Laloo finds serious irregularities in the electoral lists for JD polls

Janata Dal president and Bihar chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav said there were serious irregularities in the electoral lists prepared for the organisational polls of his party.

The Dal chief, who is in the fray to retain his seat, said he had brought these discrepancies to returning officer P K Samant Ray's notice, urging him to rectify it before the polls.

Yadav also communicated to the returning officer that if need be, the party presidential elections could be held on the opening day between 0900 and 0500 hours.

But shouldn't the party working president Sharad Yadav have seen that the lists were correct?

"He (Sharad) should have seen the papers," the JD chief said, "But despite precautions, such discrepancies happen. Now I am here myself to see to things and ensure free and fair elections."

He said in some parts of Uttar Pradesh, the party had not yet elected city presidents, though these had a status of mahanagar (metropolis). Likewise, though the Union territory of Lakshdeep had a status of a district, 10 persons were on the national council from there. (Notified districts can have only one representative.)

He nominated 60 professionals including writers and educationists to the JD national council. "Five per cent of the national executive members should be professionals," he said.
