Pakistan violates Indian airspace the most
Indian airspace is mostly violated by Pakistani aircraft.
Defence sources say of the total 34 violations in 1996 and 1997, 25 were from Pakistani planes.
In 1995, 22 airspace violations were recorded, of which Pakistani aircraft were involved in 16. Similarly, of the 12 violations last year, nine were done by Pakistani planes.
This year, the Indian Air Force shot at an intruding Pakistani remote-controlled pilotless
aircraft near Bhuj in Gujarat on January 16, following a series
of violations by similar spycraft in the south-
western sector, defence sources said.
On Wednesday, Pakistan alleged that an Indian military aircraft had
violated its airspace on Tuesday
but went back before retaliatory action could be taken. India, however, categorically denied this. "No Indian aircraft has crossed the
international border," a defence ministry spokesman said.
Defence sources said, as of now, appropriate measures did exist to
check Indian airspace violations.
