Government working to thwart ISI: minister

The government has been taking steps to stop Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence functionaries meeting anti-national elements, Minister of State for personnel S R Balasubramonian told the Lok Sabha Wednesday.

The government has geared up the intelligence machinery, begun widening border fencing, intensifying border patrolling, increasing surveillance and supplying better equipment for effective observation during day and night. It is also alerting the state government regarding movement of ISI agents, anti-national elements and insurgents.

Replying to another question, he said the government is aware of various secessionist leaders and organisations in Jammu and Kashmir receiving funds in contravention of the law. Notices had also been issued to 46 individuals and 24 organisations under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act.

In the wake of the attacks on innocent civilians, particularly Kashmiri Pandits, in the initial years of militancy, a majority of Kashmir Pandits and a many people from other minorities had migrated from Kashmir to the Jammu region and other parts of the country.

In reply to another question, he said only 631 Muslim families have migrated after the Assembly elections and they have been given provisional registration in Jammu.
