BJP MP withdraws resignation from Lok Sabha
Bharatiya Janata Party MP from East Delhi B L Sharma ''Prem" has withdrawn his resignation from the Lok Sabha.
Announcing his decision Thursday after he returned home from Hardwar, Sharma said he was doing so at the behest of senior leader, K L Sharma. Former BJP Delhi unit chief O P Kohli, MP, was also present at his residence.
Sharma said he went to the residence of Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma on March 3 and handed his handwritten resignation letter to the speaker’s private secretary since Sangma was not at home.
Sharma said he had quit because some partymen had worked against the official candidates in the recent Delhi municipal council elections. However, he had never contemplated leaving the BJP, of which he would remain a committed worker, he said.
He clarified that before going to Sangma's residence, he had not met party president L K Advani and leader of the Opposition Atal Behari Vajpayee as he had no courage to turn down their requests.
''Now I am submitting to the wishes of the people of the area, who had been on hunger strike since March 3, and also to the desire of the party leaders,'' he said.
