Laloo Yadav files anticipatory bail plea
In a significant development, beleaguered Bihar Chief Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav on Thursday filed an anticipatory bail petition in the special CBI court in Patna in connection with his alleged involvement in the Rs 9.5 billion fodder scam.
Yadav's anticipatory bail application is likely to come up
for hearing on Friday in the designated court of Justice S K Lal.
Yadav, who is apprehending his arrest in connection with the fodder
scam, is the first chief minister in the history of independent
India to have filed an anticipatory bail petition while being in
office.
Laloo Yadav is the second top politician after former
state chief minister Jagannath Mishra to file an anticipatory
bail application in connection with the scam. The court has reserved its orders on Mishra's plea till June 21.
Meanwhile, advocate Sashi Anugrah Narain, who filed the
anticipatory bail application on behalf of Laloo Yadav, said that name of the chief minister was not included in any of the FIRs and nor was any strong evidence found against him in the scam.
Narain tendered his resignation as the state additional advocate general on Wednesday.
In his bail application, Laloo Yadav has also stated that his
political opponents have hatched a conspiracy to defame him and
involved him in the scam.
At present three legislators R K Rana (Janata Dal),
Jagdish Sharma (Congress) and Dhruv Bhagat (BJP) along with
four IAS officials have been arrested in connection with the
case.
