If technology was your religion, then Silicon Valley was the Mecca. It was the promised land where jobs were plenty and lifestyles better than the boys from Hyderabad or Bangalore could ever have imagined.
But in the last two months, the promised dream has started to resemble a wasteland. Today, the signs of decay are more pronounced. It is estimated that nearly over 40,000 people have been laid off in the Valley alone. Companies have cut down on their IT spending.
The big question now is: How bad can it get and will this tech slowdown lead to a recession?
Caught in the vortex of these events is the H1-B visa holder. The most vulnerable of all the technology workers in the US, these immigrants have toiled to be a part of the great American dream.
But in hard times, they have been the first to lose their jobs and the first to be asked to leave America.
Is it fair? What are the options they have? Do they have to return to India or can they find another job in the States?
How secure are those who still have jobs?
Post your thoughts and look for the answers. For the techno geeks, in a more familiar language, it is called P2P or peer to peer networking.
