Gangster Arun Gawli detained by Bombay police

Gangster Arun Gawli has been detained under the National Security Act by the city police on Thursday morning at 0245 hours IST and was deported to the Amravati jail in the early hours of the morning. The police conducted a raid operation and detained 19 other men besides Gawli, from his Dagdi Chawl headquarters in southcentral Bombay.

According to police sources, Gawli has been detained in view of the forthcoming civic polls to be held in the city on Sunday. It is reported that the Akhil Bharatiya Sena (ABS) formed by Gawli was contesting the civic election against the ruling Shiv Sena. The ABS was posing a real challenge to Shiv Sena candidates in many wards, he said.

Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena MP from Worli, Mohan Rawle, began a fast to protest against Gawli's detention.
