It is unlawful for the Indian government to do this to me: Quattrocchi

Controversial Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi says his counsel in India has assured him that he need not worry about extradition from Malaysia, where he lives currently, to stand trial in the Bofors kickbacks case.

'You have nothing to be afraid of,' his counsel, whom he refused to identify by name, told him, Quattrocchi said, in a conversation with reporters in Kuala Lumpur at a party on Sunday hosted by Malaysian Defence Minister Syed Hamid Albar.

Quattrocchi, whom a CBI team in Kuala Lumpur is waiting to question, told the reporters,''I have done nothing wrong and so I am confident this (extradition) will not happen.''

''I think it is unlawful for the Indian government to do this to me,'' he said, adding that he was worried because the charges against him was causing embarrassment to him and the Italian government.

Quattrocchi works for the Italian government corporation, Snamprogetti SPA.
