Medical college principal denies ragging report

The principal of the B M Patil Medical College has denied reports that two junior students were stripped and locked up in a room for three days and forced to have sex.

In a press note issued late Friday evening, January 31, the Principal Dr P L Kariholu said the allegation about ragging of juniors in the college "is far from truth and no such incident has taken place at any time in the college".

He said the inquiry conducted by him and the management has revealed that the allegations are baseless, mischievous and intended to tarnish the institution's image.

The denial comes even as the Karnataka government has asked the Bijapur district authorities to inquire into the incident and submit a report.

Police have already booked cases against 19 students and arrested four.
