Astrology forces Jaya to put off party's jubilee function

Former Tamil Nadu chief minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham chief Jayalalitha has put off the party's silver jubilee celebrations for astrological reasons.

Considering 1997 an inauspicious year, the former chief minister has decided to begin the three-day celebrations on the New Year Day.

Proposing to use the occasion for launching the party's poll campaign, the AIADMK has got a 15-acre site levelled at V M Chatram, on the outskirts of Tirunelveli.

The town wears a festive look, and arches have come up on all main roads.

With a huge pandal, the venue reminds one of a medieval palace, thanks to its ornate entrance.

Money seems to be flowing like the Timbiraparni river, and the AIADMK has pulled out all stops for the celebrations.

AIADMK Tirunelveli district joint secretary Muthukaruppan told Rediff On The Net that Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Kishinchand Advani, and Janata Party chief Subramaniam Swamy will address the gathering on January 3. Jayalalitha will also speak on the occasion.
