4 killed as mob turns violent after mishap in TN

Two teenaged girls and a woman were killed when a water tanker ploughed through a group of people in Tirupur, 40 km from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

As a mob resorted to violence and arson following the incident, the police opened fired in the air. In the stampede that ensued, a man was killed.

Seven policemen, including the deputy superintendent of police, Tirupur, were injured in stone-throwing by the mob.

The police said 15 people were injured in the accident, which occurred when the victims were waiting at a bus stop. The injured were admitted to the government hospital at Tirupur.
