CPI-M leader shot dead

Ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist tribal leader Baishak Debbarma and his 22-year-old daughter were shot dead by his estranged son-in-law at Asrai in west Tripura on Monday night.

The police on Tuesday said the son-in-law, Ratan Debbarma, who is a member of the National Liberation Front of Tripura, attacked Baishak Debbarma's house along with party guerrillas and opened fire on the CPI-M leader and his daughter.

Ratan Debbarma has allegedly been trying to abduct his child from Baishak Debbarma's daughter, with whom he has strained relations.
