Economic reforms to continue: Gujral
United Front prime ministerial candidate
I K Gujral assured foreign investors on Sunday that the next Front
government would continue the economic reforms spelled out in the
UF common minimum programme and promote friendly relations with
neighbouring countries.
His government, he said, would give a ''clean and
transparent'' administration to the country on the lines of the
Deve Gowda government.
Lauding Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda for his bold domestic
and foreign initiatives, Gujral said the ten-month government had
proved the Front's capacity to provide a clean and
efficient government.
He sought to dispel the apprehension that the next UF government
would not be a stable one. Gujral said he is
hopeful of establishing better coordination and understanding
with the Congress.
''Congress president Sitaram Kesri is my friend and we have
been together in the party for a long period... I am hopeful we
will be able to evolve some mechanism for sustaining better
coordination between the two camps,'' he said.
Asked whether he would pursue the corruption cases against some
leaders, Gujral said the Deve Gowda government had already
established its transparency in this regard.
