'The CWC resolves to extend support to the formation of the government by the new leader of the United Front other than Mr Deve Gowda'

The text of Congress president Sitaram Kesri's letter to President Shankar Dayal Sharma on Friday morning, conveying support to a new United Front government headed by any person other than H D Deve Gowda.

''Please refer to my letter dated March 31, 1997. The Congress Working Committee resolves to extend support to the formation of the government at the Centre by the new leader of the United Front other than Mr Deve Gowda. Otherwise, my earlier letter stands.

''With your kind permission, I take liberty of sending copy of this letter to Mr Chandrababu Naidu, the convenor of the United Front.''

Kesri, after withdrawing support to the Deve Gowda government, had staked the Congress party's claim to form the government in a letter to the President on March 31.
