Mercenary's diary allegedly proves Pakistan backing North-East militants
The diary of a mercenary, found recently by the army in Assam, allegedly provides clinching proof of Pakistan support to militant groups in the North-East of India.
Official sources said they have found the diary of Rasool, a terrorist backed by the Inter-Services Intelligence of Pakistan, which contained elaborate details of plans to attack the headquarters of the 107 brigade at Tamulpur.
The names of the senior-most officers of the brigade, including the brigade commander, were listed in the diary, recovered on April 8 along with weapons to be employed for the attack, the sources said.
The nexus with Sri Lankan Tamil militants is also revealed with the diary speaking of Rasool's meeting with Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam leader V Prabhakaran at Colombo and Jaffna and an exchange of Rs 10 million, they added.
Rasool's meeting with United Liberation Front of Assam chief Paresh Baruah and others in Tezpur, where the ISI mercenary was handed Rs 1.4 million for killing a top army officer, is also recorded in the diary recovered by army personnel from two men during a search operation near Tamulpur.
