BJP asks President to stop "theatre of absurd"
The Bharatiya Janata Party has urged President Shankar Dayal Sharma to ensure that the present ''theatre of absurd'' and the resulting political instability is not foisted again on the nation.
Party spokesperson Yaswant Sinha said it was ''surprising'' to note that the same combination of parties which fell out are trying to patch up and form an alternate government. The greatest casualty in such experiments was stability, not only for the present but also for the near future, he said, adding that the BJP felt any ''formation'' that stakes a claim to form the next government ''must assure'' stability.
''It is the bounden duty of the President of India to see whether any combination, coalition or formation can provide stability. The nation can ill-afford another farce,'' Sinha said.
Stating that the same logic applied to the BJP, he said. ''If we are not confident of providing durability, we will not attempt to form an alternate government.
The BJP spokesperson said the United Front, under a new leadership, might ''trust'' the Congress, but the nation has ''no faith'' in such a combination. It was an absurd proposition as the Front partners were ''drifting away'', he said, but were staying together for the sake of power.
Sinha said the whole political process stood discredited before the nation. It continued to be fluid and changing from ''hour to hour''. Therefore, he said the BJP felt it was important for the President to ensure a permanent and durable government.
The President, the BJP felt, could ''discuss'' the issue with the supporting parties to find out how ''stability can be ensured. We should derive a lesson from the past experiment and see that such a farce is not repeated.''
'National Democratic Front' still under consideration, says BJP
