The Bharatiya Janata Party [Images] has withdrawn the national flag from the party's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani's [Images] website, following a complaint from the Mahatma Gandhi [Images] Foundation, based at Palai near Kottayam.

The national flag used in the website www.lkadvani.in was withdrawn after it was pointed out that the flag should not be used for campaign purposes. The foundation had also said that it was improper to use it for advertisement.

The flag code was introduced by Advani when he was the Union home minister, a release from the foundation said. The foundation welcomed the step of the BJP that withdrew the national flag from the website and the advertisement.
