40,000 letters a day keeps Obama busy
March 06, 2009 10:33 IST

With his popularity soaring high, US President Barack Obama [Images] receives a whopping 40,000 letters a day. However, he is able to reply to only ten of them.

The figure was made public by Obama himself at the concluding ceremony of the health summit convened by him at the White House.

"I get 40,000 letters, I guess, every day here in the White House," Obama said.

"I don't read all 40,000. But my staff selects 10 every single day that I read and try to respond to as many of them as possible," he said.

This, Obama said is a way to stay in touch with the constituencies that he had a chance to meet during the course of his presidential campaign.

Three out of these 10 letters every day, he said, relates to health related issues; which indicates, how serious the issue is.
