Getting wind of the design of the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom's plans to trigger more explosions in the state especially in Guwahati, security forces have mounted vigil all over the state.

A police source said that moves were afoot to set up peoples' committees at different vulnerable locations including market places, to gear up vigil in coordination with the police to thwart the terrorists' designs.

In accordance with its plan to add more teeth to the continuing crackdown on the banned ULFA, the Central government has rushed 20 additional companies of Central Reserve Police Force personnel to mount vigil against the ULFA's design in the run up to Republic Day.

With these additional companies, the total number of companies of Central forces operating in the state has gone up to 142.

Meanwhile, the Karbi tribal militant group, the Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front has threatened to call off the unilateral truce declared by it to restore peace in Karbi Anglong Hill district of Assam in view of continuing crackdowns by the security forces on the outfit.

In statement issued to the media in Guwahati, the KLNLF said that it would be forced to withdraw the unilateral truce which was declared by it effective from January 1, 2009, if the government forces continued operations against the KLNLF in the violence�affected hill district.

The KLNLF called for a 36-hour Karbi Anglong bandh from Friday in protest against killing of one of its senior leaders by the army.

The army and the police of late have carried out several successful operations against the KLNLF which is now on the run.

The outfit has been running riot in the sparsely populated hill district where policing is a very difficult job because of the hostile terrain and widely distributed police stations. The outfit besides carrying out rampant extortions in the hill district has trained its gun on Hindi-speaking population in connivance with the ULFA.
