Former union minister Shatrughan Sinha, will be the Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate for the Patna Saheb seat in Bihar in the Lok Sabha elections, a top functionary involved in selection of candidates disclosed on Friday.
He was not nominated to the Rajya Sabha and so it is logical that the party will field him in the Lok Sabha elections, the functionary said adding that the final decision would be taken by the party's central election committee that resumes selection of candidates from Monday.
The functionary was commenting on media reports of a tussle between the Sinha and BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad, also a union minister, over the ticket for the Patna Saheb seat.
He said there was no confusion in the party as Prasad is already in the Rajya Sabha and naturally it is Sinha who should go to the Lok Sabha.
"I have the blessings of prime ministerial candidate Lal Kishanchand Advani [Images] and BJP president Rajnath Singh to contest from Patna Saheb, since Patna is my hometown," Sinha had earlier said.
On Saturday, the Bihar BJP's election committee is meeting in Patna to finalise its recommendations to be sent to the central election committee for deciding the party candidates.
