An unperturbed Election Commissioner Navin Chawla on Monday attended the office and declared to join the Lok Sabha poll preparation drill that begins from Tuesday with a day-long meeting of the Election Commission with the political parties.

Leaders of seven national and 40 recognised state parties have been invited to Nirvachan Sadan on Tuesday to elicit their views on the elections, the dates for which will be finalised only after two other meetings slated this week.

The meeting to be chaired by Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalswami, alongwith commissioners Chawla and S Y Quraishi, would discuss an the preparatory measures and other electoral issues that the political parties have on their mind for the massive democratic exercise, an Election Commission spokesman said.

It is taking place in the backdrop of Quraishi stating in London [Images] last week that the Lok Sabha polls could be held between April 8 and May 15. The spokesman made it clear that no dates have been finalised as yet.

This meeting will be followed by a day-long review of preparations with the Chief Electoral Officers of all states and Union Territories on Wednesday and with the Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police on Thursday and Friday.
