A Bihar court on Friday sentenced 10-year rigorous imprisonment to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammed Shahabuddin on Friday in an Arms Act case, following recovery of a country-made pistol and several rounds of ammunition from his Pratappur house in Siwan district on April 24, 2005.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Gyaneshwar Prasad Srivastava pronounced the sentence at a special court in Siwan jail .
However, Shahabuddin was acquitted by the same court in another criminal case due to lack of evidence on Friday.
A total of six cases were registered against Shahabuddin after police recovered stolen vehicles, country-made pistols, foreign-made cartridges, foreign currencies, wireless sets and AK 47 rifle and also detected illegal electricity connection during the raid on his house.
A special court had on May 8, 2007 awarded him life imprisonment. He was also awarded imprisonment for various durations in four other cases earlier.
Over two dozen criminal cases of Shahabuddin are still pending in special court.
