President Patil convenes conference on women's empowerment

Indian President Pratibha Patil [Images] is actively trying to usher in a new era for empowerment of the women of the country.

For the first time, Patil has convened a conference on women's empowerment. She has invited eleven governors of various states for a discussion on Thursday.

An 11-member sub-committee of governors constituted at the governors conference held in New Delhi [Images] in September at the instance of the President will be holding its first meeting on Thursday to discuss "empowerment of women."
The meeting is to be held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan and will be attended by the President, though it would be presided over by Haryana Governor A R Kidwai, sources said.

The governors of Chhatisgarh, Madhya Pradesh [Images], Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal, Assam,Maharashtra, Manipur Andhra Pradesh and Orissa. are the members of the sub committee.
