The last date for filing nominations ended today with 207 candidates getting into the fray for the 40-member Mizoram state assembly elections, to be held on December 2.
Aizawl district, which has 14 assembly seats has the highest number of candidates with 73 nominees filing nominations till 3 pm while Saiha, which has only two assembly seats has the lowest number of candidates with 13 people filing nominations till date.
Scrutiny of the nomination papers would be taken up in the eight districts tomorrow. Saturday is the last day to withdraw the nominations.
The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) is contesting 39 seats and gave one constituency to its poll partner, the Mara Democratic Front (MDF), in the extreme southern part of the state. Another poll ally, the Mizoram Congress Party (MC) has two candidates, but will contest the polls on MNF ticket and symbol.
Opposition Congress and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) are contesting all the 40 seats, while the BJP is contesting eight seats.
Small parties like National Congress Party (NCP) and Lok Bharti have announced their candidates and many independents are also in the fray.
