Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Friday claimed that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had sent offers to him to join the Bahujan Samaj Party.
"Mayawati had sent offers to me to join BSP and threatened that otherwise I will be left doing rounds of courts and made to languish in jail," he told reporters in Lucknow.
The SP general secretary also alleged that independent MLA Mukhtar Ansari, accused in Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Krishnand Rai murder case, and BSP MP Akbar Ahmad Dampi conspired to kill him during the recently-held Lok Sabha bypolls in UP.
He claimed there was a plot to kill him during campaigning between Varanasi and Azamgarh, but it was not implemented as SP MPs Jaya Bachchan and Jaya Prada were accompanying him.
Amar Singh said "mafias Atiq Ahmad (MP) and Mukhtar Ansari (MLA) are all set to join BSP" and another heavyweight MLA D P Yadav is already in BSP.
"Anyone can guess whether they have threat from me or I have life threat from them," he said.
Amar Singh also alleged that Mayawati was unnecessarily targeting him in the case related to allotment of a plot meant for economically weaker sections to him in 1993.
"In my personal library of 'corrupt officers', the officer (who has been) handed over inquiry into the plot alloted to me was on top of the list," Amar Singh said.
"Mayawati likes me a lot and also my vehicle and house. If she wants, I can give them to her," he said in a lighter vein.
Asked about relations with Congress, he said he was obliged to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] and the way he greeted him at a dinner to mark completion of four years of United Progressive Alliance government.
