The ongoing racial clashes in South Africa claimed the life of an Indian immigrant on Wednesday night.

Fifty five-year-old Niten Singh was burnt alive by a mob in his home in Actonville, Johannesburg.  

According to media reports, nearly 100 people from a local hostel attacked and looted the photographer's residence before setting it on fire. No arrests have been made yet.

Johannesburg has been witnessing attacks on foreign nationals since almost two weeks.

More than 24 people have been killed, hundreds injured and about 13,000 people have been left destitute since violence first erupted in the township of Alexandria, near Johannesburg on May 11.

Locals have been targeting Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi nationals for taking their jobs. But now, even Asian immigrants are facing the brunt of the violence.

With the violence threatening to spill over to neighbouring city of Durban, the South African government has decided that it will deploy military fixed-wing aircraft and armed personnel carriers to back up police.
