Army man, ULFA ultra killed in gun battle

A jawan of the Indian Army and a militant of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom were killed in a fierce gun-battle that took place at Dalangghat village in north Assam late on Thursday night.

An Army spokesman based in north Assam said that a group of Army personnel launched a search operation at Dalangghat village at around 10 pm on receipt of the intelligence input about presence of a group of ULFA militants in Dalangghat area.

A fierce encounter took place once the team of Army men came face-to-face with a three-member group of ULFA militants. One of the militants was killed and another injured while the third militant managed to flee.

An army personnel injured in the encounter later died in hospital. The Army recovered one foreign-made pistol, 115 rounds of ammunition and four magazines of AK-47 assault rifle, 15 rounds of ammunition of 9 mm pistol and three bicycles from the group of ultras.
