China's deadline for agitating Tibetan protesters to either surrender or face heavy punishment may have expired late Monday night, yet voices of protest continued to echo across the world on Tuesday.
Even as Beijing appreciated India's handling of the Tibetan 'independence' activities 'masterminded' by Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, it buckled under intense international pressure and stated that it was still open to talks with the Dalai Lama.
Tibet, meanwhile, continues to remain virtually cut off after Friday's widespread violence.
Elsewhere, facing increasing criticism -- especially from Beijing -- for his 'middle way' policy, the Dalai Lama has threatened to quit as the head of the Tibetan exile movement if the unrest in Tibet got out of control.
Asserting he did not want independence for Tibet by wresting control from China, the 73-year-old spiritual leader appealed to his fellowmen to remain calm and not to resort to violence.
