Is this the next First Lady of the United States?
March 4, 2008
As expected, Mrs Obama's comments came under fire from opportunistic
political opponents. But it was an uncharacteristic reaction from unexpected quarters that had people talking. Cindy McCain, wife of Republican Senator and presidential hopeful John McCain, said at a rally, "I'm proud of my country, I don't know if you heard those words earlier. I'm very proud of my country".
While Michelle Obama later clarified that her comments were purely in reaction to the fact that American's were finally ready for change, she makes no apologies for being her outspoken self. She places utmost importance on authenticity and says she sees no need to hide who she really is.
"My view on this stuff is I'm just trying to be myself, trying to be as authentic as I can be. I can't pretend to be somebody else," The Washington Post quoted her as saying.
