A specific information was received by police that a person was roaming around Chinar Park in Handwara of Kupwara district planning to lob a grenade on the police station in the area, he said.

A special police team rushed to the spot and arrested one Irshad Ahmad Hajam possessing a hand grenade.

During interrogation, Hajam revealed that Lashkar-e-Tayiba commanders Abu Hurrera and Abu Wakas held a meeting with the outfit's cadres at Bumhuma Kupwara near forests some days back and assigned each of them a task of throwing grenades at different places and on different targets like police stations, public rallies in Handwara and Kupwara towns, he said.

Hajam said a special squad of the LeT left from Kupwara to Handwara, Sopore and Srinagar to execute their plans, the spokesman said.

Special nakas were laid by police at Kulangam crossing Chogal and Nowgam crossing to nab them, he said, adding the police succeeded in arresting three LeT cadres carrying two grenades each.
