Curfew was lifted on Friday in Jammu and adjoining areas which witnessed violence during a bandh called by a Hindu outfit to protest the alleged suicide by a man over the Amarnath Shrine land row. Authorities had clamped curfew on Thursday in view of high tension following the suicide of an activist of Sangharsh Samiti, the organisation spearheading the agitation against revocation of the land transfer to the Amarnath shrine board.
"We have relaxed the curfew indefinitely. In case if the situation turns bad, curfew would be reimposed," Jammu deputy commissioner Mandeep Bandari told PTI.
At least 27 persons, including 12 policemen, were injured on Thursday as the police clashed with protesters during the bandh.
Bandari said the police and CRPF forces had been deployed in the city, particularly in sensitive areas, and all exit and entry points in the area were being monitored.
