J&K: Separatist leaders under house arrest

July 01, 2008 02:15 IST

Ahead of the proposed rally on Tuesday to protest the land transfer issue, Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday night placed almost all the separatist leaders under house arrest.

'It's a question of people's sentiments'

Though no one from the state police was coming on record, sources, however, said that separatist leaders, including Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Shabbir Shah and others were unlikely to be allowed to move out of their residences on Tuesday.

J&K may revoke controversial order on Tuesday

The separatist leaders, cutting across their ideologies, had given a call asking people to assemble at historic Jama Masjid on Tuesday to press for their demand for a government order announcing revocation of nearly 40 hectares of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.

A heavy posse of police personnel along with central paramilitary forces was seen patrolling the city tonight as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident on Tuesday.
