Delhiites continued to shiver for another day on Monday with the minimum temperature dipping to 2.3 degree Celsius, the second lowest recorded this season.

Monday's minimum plummeted from Sunday's 5.9 degree Celsius to settle at 2.3 degrees, which is six notches below normal temperature this time of the year, prompting the weatherman to declare a cold wave in Delhi.

Delhi is likely to be under the cold spell for a couple of days with the Meteorological Department predicting the minimum to hover around 2 degrees on Tuesday.

The National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting said that a western disturbance is likely to affect north-west India, including Delhi, by February, which is expected to cause a rise in temperature.

Delhi has been experiencing intense cold for the past few days with the minimum and maximum temperatures plummeting many notches below normal.

The maximum was recorded at 18.1 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

The season's lowest was recorded at 1.9 degree Celsius on January 2, marking a chilly beginning to the New Year.

"It is really cold and even three layers of woollens did not help me fight the cold in the morning. It was horrible driving a motorcycle to my office from my south Delhi residence," Sumit Randhawa, a medial transcriptionist, said.
