A team of Central Bureau of Investigation has arrived in Guwahati to take over the probe into the October 30 serial blasts that rocked four places in Assam, killing 93 and injuring close to 550.

The CBI will also take over the investigation into communal  flare-up that left 58 dead and over two lakh homeless in Udalguri and Darrang district of Assam in early part of October this year.

The Centre gave the go-ahead for the CBI investigation into the serial terror and communal riots in Assam.

The team of CBI officials, led by a DIG rank officer, had meetings with senior police and other security agency officials.

The Assam government had earlier constituted a special investigation team to investigate the serial explosions.

A meeting all political parties in the state convened by Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on November 28 last recommended the state government to hand over the investigation into the serial blasts and the ethnic violence to the CBI.

The government maintains that cadres  from the proscribed Bodo militant group, National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) had executed the serial blasts that was plotted by masterminds sitting in a neighbouring country. The needle of suspicion is pointed to Bangladesh-based Harkat ul Jehai Islami (HuJI). The SIT also probe into role played by the  United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) in execution of the blasts.
