The family of  Executive Director of the  Food Corporation of India, P C Ram who was abducted by United Liberation Front of Asom militants and  subsequently killed in the crossfire between police and his captors last year, has decided to request Guwahati High Court to review the status of the Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the case.

The senior FCI official was abducted from near his office in the heart of Guwahati on April 17 , 2007 by suspected ULFA militants and was later found dead on the night of July 11 same year  following an encounter between the police and his captors at Borka Panitema village in Kamrup district about 40 kilometers from Guwahati.

"We are not satisfied with the sluggish pace of investigation by the CBI into abduction and killing of my father. We have serious doubts that some influential quarters may try to derail the investigation. So, we have decided to move the high court requesting it to review the progress of investigation," said Praveen Kumar Gautom, son of the slain FCI official.

The high court in November 2007 directed the CBI to probe the case in response to a petition filed by the family of the slain official. The family had alleged that some FCI officials were behind the abduction and subsequent killing of the P C Ram and wanted the CBI to unearth the conspiracy.

Praveen visited the village house on Wednesday where the 'encounter' between the police and ULFA took place resulting in death of the FCI official. "I suspect that my father was not killed in crossfire but in cold blood from point blank range. The CBI should move fast to unearth the conspiracy and pinpoint the killers," Praveen said.
