Dr Kapil Yadav, Progressive Medicos and Scientists Forum, a pro-quota organisation in New Delhi, spoke to rediff.com after the Supreme Court verdict: We welcome the judgment, but it is 50 years late. It should have included the creamy layer, so our stand is not fully met. Now there should be reservation in the judiciary also. The same rule should apply to the judiciary too.
It is not that we are very happy, we are feeling let down in fact. The judgment has not taken us by surprise, it was expected. It was just a delaying tactic (by the bureaucracy) and they were able to close the gate (for reservation in admission) in the last session.
A very dejected Dr Kaushal Mishra from Youth for Equality and a leading anti-quota crusader, gave his initial reactions to the judgment:
I don't know what to say. We are waiting for the full judgment and then we will decide what to do. We are not very hopeful.
The amendment has been validated. How can caste be the criteria? There has been no proper identification of castes and a separate list will be needed for that.
It is indeed very disappointing for us.
