Former Research and Analysis Wing operative Major General (retd) V K Singh has been booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation under the Official Secrets Act, CBI sources said.

Maj Gen (retd) Singh's book India's External Intelligence, Secrets of Research and Analysis Wing had caused alarm in the corridors of power.

He has been booked under Section 5 of the Official Secrets Act, which pertains to wrongful communication.

The CBI conducted raids at his residence at Palam Vihar in Gurgaon, the sources said, adding that several 'incriminating documents' were recovered from the house.

The raids on his residence come close on the heels of the publication of his book, which stirred a huge controversy and generated extreme reactions.

An officer of the Signals Corps, Maj Gen Singh was on deputation with RAW when India was engaged in Kargil conflict with Pakistan. The RAW had played a crucial role in intercepting Pakistani communication network as proof of the neighbouring country's explicit involvement in the Kargil intrusion.
