The creation of a database among member States of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation for a coordinated action against terrorism, drug trafficking, cyber crimes and financial frauds was mooted at their conference in New Delhi on Tuesday.

On the first day of the three-day SAARC Home Ministers' meet, the police chiefs of these countries agreed on sharing information among police organisations to check various trans-border crimes, Home Ministry sources said.

They said the delegates spoke of the need for having a better institutional mechanism so that coordinated action could be taken to meet the common challenges.

The Home Ministers of the eight-nation grouping will meet on October 25 after the Home Secretaries of these countries deliberate on Wednesday on measures to harmonise national legislations and procedures on the second day of the meet.

The SAARC conference comes a day after the Indo-Pak Joint Terror Mechanism met on Monday when New Delhi sought Islamabad's cooperation in tracking down suspects in the recent bomb blasts in Samjhauta Express, Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad and in Ajmer Dargah.

"There is a clear link between the three attacks," Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal has said.

The ongoing SAARC meeting has assumed added significance as it is taking place in the backdrop of a series of terror attacks, the latest being the Ludhiana cinema hall blast, all of which are believed to have been carried out by terrorists based in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
