A team of the Hyderabad Police arrived in Ajmer on Saturday to probe the links between the blast at the Khwaja Moinuddin Chisthi dargah and the Mecca Masjid blasts in the city on May 18. An officer from the Hyderabad Police team told rediff.com that prima facie there appears to be a lot of similarities between the two blasts. However, they will have to investigate further to ascertain if both blasts were masterminded by the same organisation or individual.
The official added that the explosives were found wrapped in a Telegu newspaper, indicating that those who planted the bomb had a link with Hyderabad. Both Mecca Masjid and Ajmer blasts took place at religious places, when people had gathered to offer their prayers.
The police are also examining other similarities such as the explosive material being stored in a tiffin box and the cell phone used to trigger the blast. The police are trying to find more information about Salim, one of the victims of the blast, who is now a suspect.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Police will also visit Hyderabad soon to probe the links between the two blasts. The police personnel are also questioning several people.
"As of now, it seems an outside link triggered off the blasts. We have picked up 40 more persons and are currently questioning them," a senior officer said.
